My mother goes on a trip for a week and we have to learn how to cook or we’ll dine with Duke Humphrey.

Benny must have dined with Duke Humphrey if Amy doesn’t cook him meals.

A minute later…
 
---Not bad, not bad. I’m not saying it’s Shakespeare, but I’m impressed. Have you shown your stuff to anyone else?
---Not yet. I think most of my’ friends would rag on me.
---I don’t mean those boneheads. I was talking about your teachers—people who may know something about poetry.
---I guess I could.
---Go for it. And, why not submit a couple of poems to a magazine?
---Come off it. Do you think they’d accept them? If you never try, you’ll never know.
